Electoshock Fishing Demonstration

Simulated Fishing Experience

Fossil Dig

The kids got to dig through sand and find and identify different fossils. They learned about what time periods different fossils were from and how to identify them. They also got to pick out two fossils to take home with them, which they were very excited about.

Here, the kids learned about the water cycle, different types of precipitation, aquafer models, how to conserve water, and studied water usage models. They had a blast and learned a lot about how water affects them.

Electroshock Fishing

At this station, the kids were taught about ecological assessment. They watched fish get stunned and float to the surface. They loved looking at the different types of fish.

Simulated Fishing Experience

During this rotation, the kids learned how to cast their lines, tied knots, studied different types of fish and hooks, and practiced general fishing skills. They learned a lot that many of them wouldn’t have otherwise been taught, and had a lot of fun in the process.

We had many volunteers that helped the Water Day process go smoothly, including 19 facilitators and 6 teachers. Texas Master Naturalists, Texas Parks and Wildlife, A&M Agrilife extension agents, and Saltfork Golf Course employees were all involved.

It was a great day, and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
